"Incidentally, the thing I find most ridiculous about this whole ballyhoo is the fact that gendered bathrooms were conceived as a novelty at a party in Paris in the 18th century. A novelty! People used to all use the same bathroom without a second thought, and they weren’t psychologically damaged by the experience, as far as anyone can tell. The invention of gendered bathrooms can’t possibly have been culturally necessary. Why even defend gendered bathrooms at all? Are they some bastion of the Enlightenment, or of our great land of America? We poop in those things. Come on, people."
Emily Smith, commenting on a petition to let a 7 year old transboy use the boys’ bathroom at school. He has been living as boy (not an openly trans boy, but simply a boy), the teacher had agreed to accommodate, and then the McIntosh County Schools (Georgia) superintendent insisted that he be made to use the girls’ bathroom and threatened the (very supportive, started the petition) father with CPS.
